All About Eve (1950)

All About Eve (1950)
Some people will stop at nothing to get what they want. Margo Channing is one of the theater’s top performing actresses with fame, fortune and a close circle of friends. She meets one of her biggest fans, Eve Harrington, and takes the young girl in. As time goes on, however, Eve’s motives become increasingly apparent as she interjects herself into Margo’s affairs, starting with running things in her household to becoming her understudy in the theater. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “All About Eve”.

· Everyone is at Margo’s, celebrating Bill’s birthday. Margo isn’t in the celebrating spirit. In the close-up, when she says, “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night”, Margo is holding her cigarette in her right hand. As she walks away from the guests, she’s holding the cigarette in her left hand.

· During Bill’s birthday party, Bill, Eve, and some of the others are sitting on the stairs. Eve is talking about applause and comments, “just that alone is worth anything”, and the view of Bill, Addison and Karen sitting behind her shows Bill’s right hand is elevated, holding a cigarette. It cuts back to a close-up of Eve and Bill’s right arm can be seen across his lap. Eve stands up and, in the farther view, his arm is elevated again.

· Margo, Bill, Karen and Lloyd are out to dinner when Bill proposes a toast to Margo. Margo’s cigarette is in her left hand. It’s still there in the wider view of the four. Karen asks when they’re getting married and Margo is shown switching the cigarette to her right hand. The scene cuts back to the close-up view of Margo and Bill and the cigarette is in her left hand again.

· Eve and Addison are outside of her room, 509. She invites him in because she has “something to tell you” and, in the close-up view of Addison, he’s shown switching his cane from his left hand to the right hand. It cuts to a front, wider view and Addison is shown switching the cane from his left to right hand again.
