After Autumn

Craig W. Steele

Soon after autumn’s last day passed,
I walked through fields turned brown and spare
anticipating winter’s blast,
because fair autumn’s time was past.
The world’s worn bland, not colorfast,
most birds have gone and trees lie bare.
Soon after autumn’s days have passed,
I walk through fields turned white and spare.
